21 June 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 21st June [1883]. Practised guitar before breakfast. Idita sat to me. Lady Bagot & 2 girls came & Lady B. stayed on after the others. They all leave tonight. Directly after lunch we went with the De Bülows to the Armenian Convent. Went round it with P. Alischan & then went on to the Lido. Landed at Sta Elisabetta & walked to the bathing place where we went & met a great many people we knew & expected to find Mme Hurtado. I saw there a Mme Gomer whom we had known at Madrid & never seen since. The Dss della Grazia was there & her 2 girls were expecting Mme Hurtado to take them to the tea party at the Favorita. We walked on & left them waiting. When we got there we found tea spread out but Idita told us that her mother had sent word that she was ill & cd not come. We sent to tell the Della Grazia girls to come & not to wait. Idita had laid the tea cloth on the grass & ornamented it with poppies & it looked very pretty. We had tea & then Lady Bagot took leave of us & returned by the steamer to Venice with her girl Leila. We were very sorry to say goodbye to Lady Bagot of whom everybody is very fond. Then it being nearly 6 we set off home having waited for the Della Grazia party in vain. Just as Idita was embarking having packed up all the tea things they arrived & she had to go back. We dined at 7 & then took out the Bulows for a row & to the Edens’ for a little.
