1 July 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 1st July [1883]. My birthday. Idita sent me a little gold ring & Mme Hurtado sent me flowers. I went to church & played the harmonium. Mme Ho sang. It was a hot day & I had rather a headache but had no time to rest. At 3 went out with Henry & Miss C. They left me at the Hurtado’s & Miss C went on to see the Digby Murrays who have hired Ca’ Dario for a time. She & Henry joined me at the Hurtados & at 4 we went to the Edens to take leave of them as they start for England tonight. Found Miss Bronson & Dr Facci there. We took a tender farewell of the good Edens & went home at 5 to see the Régatta in honor of the Genoese. Henry took Miss C. down the canal & I went home & had our hangings put out. The Regatta was a very good one & we saw it well– The scene was most animated & there were quantities of boats of all kinds out. We dined at 8 & the Hurtados & Olga Mocenigo dined with us– Pleasant evening.
