5 July 1883 — En route to Vienna
Thursday. 5th July [1883]. We arrived at Vienna at 10 AM after a very comfortable journey. I had not to get out of the carriage once. We had our coffee brought us in the coupé very early. We went to the Hotel Imperial where we found Mr Victor Drummond waiting for us & good rooms ordered on 2nd floor to wh we went by a lift. We breakfasted below in a covered in yard & had very good food. Henry went afterwards to the Albertina. I remained in & wrote letters. He came home abt 1 & we went for a walk to the Cathedral. Went in & saw it & then walked back again looking at the shops by the way. We dined at 5 & then went & took a drive in the Prater & were back at 8. Just as I had got undressed the waiter came to say a Mr Froman wanted to see me! I said I was too tired. It turned after to have been the Victor Drummonds & I was sorry not to have seen them. Read & worked till bed time.
