16 July 1883 — Dresden
Monday. 16th July [1883]. After breakfast started off to see the Grune Gewölbe with which we were delighted. The Director Herr                accompanied us & explained all. He only spoke German & I had to interpret for Henry. There are endless fine things there—especially work by Dinglinger a Dresden jeweller of the last century– The things are beautifully arranged on brackets round the rooms done up in a kind of Chippendale style. Herr                took us to the Historical Museum & there left us. We found there more fine things and splendid armour beautifully arranged. We got back to the hotel abt 1 & had some lunch. Henry went out to the bank but found it was shut till after 3. So went out together again later & he went to the bank & I did a little shopping & then back to dinner at 4.30. It was cold & wet & we could not go out in the evening so we played cribbage & had tea at 10.
