11 August 1883 — Schluderbach
Saturday. 11th August [1883]. We left Schluderbach abt 9 oclock in Mr Malcolm’s carriage & went to Tai where we stopped to lunch. Weather cloudy but dry. After lunch we walked into Cadore—the sun came out & it got very hot. We went into the church to see the pictures– The one by Titian is not pleasing & has been much painted over– Those by the other Vecelli are not good. There are two modern pictures not bad. Then saw the bronze statue of a Titian in the Piazza which I liked– It was put up 2 years ago. The carriage joined us there & we drove on to Longarone where we found Mr Malcolm expecting us. The great flood of last autumn have carried away his new road & all his garden and we had to come to his house by an upper road which led to the stables. There we got out & walked a few steps to the house. We got there at 5. Mr Malcolm gave us tea & then I dressed & rested till dinner at 7. Went to bed early.
