24 August 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 24th August [1883]. Up at 7 as usual, read—practised guitar till breakfast. Painted. Mrs Ross went off to the Lido to bathe. Palmaroli came to luncheon & then Henry & he went off to see pictures. Mrs Ross & I sat in the studio talking & I working till 5 when we had tea & Henry returned. Then she & I went out in the gondola, left cards & went to a shop in the piazza & so home to 7 o’cl dinner. Very bad news of Rawdon Brown who seems to be sinking. After dinner we went out to the Giardinetto & had ices– Very hot & a storm threatened.
