30 August 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 30th August [1883]. Miss Holas came and was with me a long time telling me all her troubles—& then I tried to teach her to make Greek lace & lent her books also. Painted in morning. Palmaroli came to lunch & then Henry took him & Mrs Ross out. It was very hot & still tremendous scirocco & I remained in, painted & read. Sir Henry Thompson & Mr Thompson dined with us & after dinner we took them out in the gondola to hear the Pittori & to get some air. The scirocco was blowing with great force but it was very hot.
