12 September 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 12th September [1883]. Wrote letters before breakfast. Afterwards Alice Rate & I had great gardening consultations & Mr Malcolms gardener came over and we settled about having boxes outside all the lower windows; then I painted till lunch time. Henry took Mr Rate & Margie to the Picture gallery. After lunch Margie went to see Miss Gordon & I sat downstairs talking to her parents. At 3 Henry, Mr & Mrs R. & I went out in gondola to Malcolm’s garden to talk to Fernando about filling the boxes & then we went on to choose some plants at the botanical garden—& then home. Dined at 7 & after dinner Henry took out the 3 Rates. I remained at home & wrote letters.
