15 September 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 15th September [1883]. Ferdinando came & we had more garden talk & then went up to the studio & got Pasquale to make up a box for cuttings &c in the studio. Miss Clark came & I showed her over the house. She brought introductions from Lady Eastlake. She had a niece with her. After lunch Alice R. was taken ill & had to go to bed. Mr & Lady Margaret Beaumont called– I stayed up stairs & read till 5 then had tea with Margie downstairs in their rooms. At 5 I went out to see Mrs Brown & she showed me her garden & gave me some lovely flowers. Dined at 7 & then I went out to Piazza with Henry & Mr Rate & had ices–
