22 September 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd September [1883]. Lady Dickson & I gardened & washed plants all the morning & before breakfast I helped Regina to clean out & arrange my studio. I then wrote a lot of letters a long one to Maria sending her letters of introduction for Dacre at Paris. After lunch I wrote for ½ hour more and then went out with Henry & Dicksons. Dropped them at the Stabto & went to Danielli’s to call on Mr & Lady Margaret Beaumont & found them at home then returned to the Stabto to fetch the others & we went up the canal—left a note at Palazzo Civran for Miss Lyall & went on past the station. Just as we passed the train was come in & we saw Mr Colnaghi arrive. He was come to stay with us so we turned & went home to meet him & we had tea– Read till dinner. Mr Malcolm dined with us and after dinner Henry took the Genl. & Mr Colnaghi out to the Piazza. Mr Malcolm stayed with Lady Dickson & me. We went to bed at 10.30.
