1 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 1st October [1883]. An unsettled morning as the Dicksons were leaving. They started for Florence at 12.50. Miss Lyall came to see me before they left to ask us to let her travel with us when we go to Florence. We were sorry to lose the Dicksons & they sorry to go. After luncheon Henry & I went out to the Grand Hotel to fetch d’Azeglio and took him to the Stabto to see the glass. Henry having some business with Castellani he stayed while I took d’Azeglio to Richetti’s. I was going to leave him when I heard a voice calling to me to go up & I found it was the Beaumonts & they wanted me to advise abt some things they were buying. I saw there a china cup & saucer with the Capello arms & I determined to tell Henry of them. I took Azeglio back to his hotel & fetched Henry from the Stabto & then we hurried home as a storm was getting up & it rained a little. Soon after getting in I recd the cup & saucer with the Capello arms from Mr Beaumont as a present & a few kind words. Tea– Wrote letters. Dined at 7. Went out in the eveng to Piazza & took a walk. Home early & cribbage.
