2 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 2nd October [1883]. I was busy all the morning arranging things, unpicking a gown &c. We breakfasted in Henry’s library as we always do when we are alone. Miss Holas called & told me she intended going to Consple to work there. Mr Malcolm called to talk abt household affairs, stoves &c. Lunched at 1. At 3 went out with Henry to the Stabto where he had some business. We left cards on Mrs Bronson who is just come– Went to Piazzetta & took a walk. Went to a shop in 22nd March street to see for some paper hangings—did not decide. Henry called on Pilat to ask name & address of a gentleman he had brought yesterday to present to us. Then we went home. A storm was brewing– We passed the Master of the Rolls & Lady Brett in a gondola– Had tea. Dressed & went by appointt to the Hotel d’Europe to have an audience of Pss William of Prussia. She is young, pretty & graceful & was very pleasant & nice to us. Her lady Css Keller spoke English very well. The storm gathered & there was a good deal of lightening but very little rain. We sat in the studio in the eveng & played cribbage till bed time.
