4 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 4th October [1883]. Painted in the morning. Directly after lunch went out with Henry in gondola. It was a wet day & we had to go with the felze. We called on Malcolm, found him at home & talked business with him. We then went on to leave a card on Ld Campbell at the Britannia & at the door we met the Bretts in their gondola. Lady Brett came with me & Henry went with Sir Baliol; we took them to see the Stabto & then to Biondini as they wanted to look for a fountain. From there we went to Clerle’s near Piazza Manin & then brought the Bretts home here with us & gave them tea. After tea I wrote letters till dinner time at 7. In eveng sat in the studio & played cribbage. | |
