5 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 5th October [1883]. Painted & finished the sketch of our Norwegian drawing room for Monty. Miss Holas came again to beg me to try & get her 2500 fcs. I said I wd go & talk to Mrs Bronson & I ordered the gondola & went at once but I did not find Mrs Bronson at home & so came straight home. After lunch I & Henry went to Murano to meet the Miss Monks. We went first to the Vetreria & I made Rolandi take me round to see some of the workmen’s familys & I came to the conclusion that it wd be a good thing to get up a Kindergarten for the children there. We went on from there to see the Venezia & Murano glass blowing & then I walked with Abbate Zanetti to see the workmen’s houses wh he has had built & in wh I had taken a share. Henry took the Miss Monks to see the Bellini in the church & then he & I went to Venice & I left Henry at the Stabto & went again to Mrs Bronson but did not find her; fetched Hy & home. Had tea; wrote letters. Sir Baliol & Lady Brett, Lord Campbell & Stratheden, Count Serego, & Mr Mathews dined with us & we had a pleasant eveng. Mr Horatio Brown & Misses Monk came to tea in eveng.
