7 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 7th October [1883]. I went to church. Led the singing, Miss Cremer played harmonium. After lunch Henry & I went in gondola to call on Mrs Bronson & met there Mr & Miss Browning who are living in a small house belonging to Mrs Bronson. I spoke to her about Miss Holas but she wd do nothing so I wrote at once to Consple to see if I cd get some money out of their rich uncle there. I took Miss Bronson & Miss Ker to the Litany service. We were rather late but there was a good congregation. Took them back to Casa Aloise & went home. Visit from the French consul & his wife—very charming people both speaking English perfectly. Then a visit from Mme Castellani who is going to her mother for a visit. Then came Sir Baliol & Lady Brett & then Miss Lyall & we all had tea & Mme Castellani remained nearly all the time. Henry went to a general meeting of the Vetreria & came home abt 6. We dined at 7 & sat in the studio in the evening & played cribbage & to bed early.
