18 October 1883 — Florence | |
Thursday. 18th October [1883]. Henry went out to the Natural Museum. I remained in & wrote letters. It rained a little & there was scirocco. He returned at 12 & we lunched. After lunch Sir James Hudson called & sat a long time chatting. We went out with him shopping and came in rather tired at abt 4.30. Wrote letters, read &c. Dressed for dinner & at 7 dined with the Colnaghis. Met Genl. & Mme Corti. He the Prefect of Florence. She an English woman. Has been good looking & now stout & not young. Also met Mr & Miss Inderwick. He is lawyer to the H. of Commons. She a remarkably handsome woman—very dark low forehead & full colour. Tall well built & on grand scale– In the evening several people came there. The Russian & French Consuls, Mr Villari the author, Major Light, Mr Wilson an artist &c. We returned to hotel abt 11. | |
