14 November 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 14th November [1883]. Very busy arranging linen cupboards & going over other china cupboards with Giov. Mr Burton arrived from Vicenza to stay with us. I went out at 5 to the see Mrs Hewitt at Hotel Europa & had tea there. All the family were at home and the girls were very amusing & intelligent and I spent a very pleasant hour there. I went on to Mrs Eden’s to welcome her back to Venice after their summer’s absence. Found both her & Mr Eden looking well, & he stood up for a moment to receive me wh seemed to me an improvement as he never moved off his back before he left. Mrs Bronson & her daughter & Mr Browning & Miss B. dined with us.
