9 December 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 9th December [1883]. I went to church in the morng. Miss Bronson played the harmonium. I led the singing. At 2 I went out with Henry. We took a few turns in the Piazza & then he walked home & I went to Hotel Victoria & called on old Lady Sinclair. She was alone & glad to see me. She talked much abt her daughter & her entêtement abt Rustem P. & longed for rest & to be able to fix herself somewhere but said they were going on to Florence—as Miss St Clair was restless & felt the cold here. Home to tea. Mr & Mrs Claude Colthorp & their little boy & Ersilia Canevaro & her 2 boys came to tea & the boys are delighted to make acquaintance. Emily R came abt 6 & stayed & dined. We made cigarettes in the evening & when she was gone I read till bed time. It was very cold–
