10 December 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 10th December [1883]. It was very cold & raining when we got up & the rain soon changed into snow– We breakfasted at ¼ to 9 & Henry went off to Murano to attend the funeral of the Abbate Zanetti the Director of Murano Museum & a very good kind man & much beloved in the island. Henry did not return till just lunch time. He says he was made to preside at the funeral & he had to sit for 2½ hours in church while the ceremonies & speeches were going on. Olga did not come to sit to me as she sent word she was tired & it was lucky she did not as it snowed hard & was bitterly cold all day. Miss St Clair came abt 10 & we sat by the fire & chatted & then at 11.30 I had a guitar lesson. The snow kept Miss Bronson away & I had a quiet good lesson. Henry returned just at 1 for lunch. We did not go out again but I devoted myself to letter writing & wrote a large number– Cribbage.
