28 December 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 28th December [1883]. Olga sat to me for her bust. At 11.30 had guitar lesson & Miss Bronson came to it. Emily R. came to lunch & Edith B. stayed also & afterwards Henry took them both to Murano to see the glass works. Bss Oesterreicher came to see me at 2 by appointment. She was tiresome & gushing as ever. She wanted to see Olga’s bust wh I had to refuse as it is not in a fit state to show. She wanted to see the birds but I put her off– She begged me to go to tea with her but I said I was always obliged to be in to tea & at last I got rid of her– Then I went out to Olga Mocenigo’s & met her by appointment to walk with her. We went to buy New Year Cards & then to the Piazza where we met the Dss di Noci & Olga’s relations. We went to Marchios & there Sr Marchio began at once to speak of Giovanni’s foolishness in leaving us & he said he was sure he wd be miserable when married to Hill. We walked on to the Edens & found Mme de Pilat with Mr Eden and sat a little while with him & then Olga & I walked part of the way home—she went to Pss Metternich & I went home to tea.
