4 January 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 4th January [1884]. I worked hard at Olga’s bust all day. She did not come in the morning so I sent to beg her to come after lunch. She said she wd come at 3.15 but it was 4 when she turned up & then we went out together. We crossed the canal in a traghetto boat & then she went her way & I went to the Edens to see Carry who had sent for me to see her. I met Miss Cremer on the way & she turned & walked with me & gave me a long acct of a quarrel between her & Mereweather wh was not very interesting. I sat abt ½ hour with Carry who is better but still has a little fever—& does not look ill. Henry who had been to Murano called for me & took me home at 5. Css Albrizzi came to call & Emily R. & Mrs Brown & we had tea in the drawing room. Mme Mimaut also came. Emily stayed to dinner & we made 116 cigarettes for Henry. At 10 she went away & I went to bed.
