5 January 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 5th January [1884]. I worked all the morning at the bust but no Olga again. Directly after lunch Henry & I went off in gondola to S. Giobbe to see Desideri’s copy of the Savoldo wh he is doing in water colour for Mrs Rate. It is taken down from the chapel & put in the sacristy. We had to wait till someone fetched the key to open for us. We went from there to the Stabto to inspect the mosaic from Walter Crane’s design wh is just finished. Then I went & sat with Carry for ½ hour & found her better but still with 1 degree of fever. Henry walked on Piazza & came back for me. I went to Ersilia & she sent for me up in her room where I found Maria & also Gino Marcello. They (Ersilia & Maria) came home to tea with me. Old Pss Hohenlohe came to call & they brought her up to the studio where we were at tea. I was sorry to have brought her up all those stairs. Gino also came to call. Dined at 7.30. I worked a lot of servants towels. Cribbage & écarté.
