26 January 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 26th January [1884]. I modelled in wax all the morning & directly after lunch I went out with Henry in gondola to various places he had to go to—then to the Edens where we stayed to tea & sat chatting. After 5 I left Henry at home & went on to see Countess Marcello where I found several people & Andriana Marcello with her hair powdered in anticipation of a bal costumé to wh she was to go this evening given by Princess Iturbide. The costumes were the whole talk of the town & caused great excitement. Mlle Laura Mocenigo was in search of a costume wh would show off her splendid arms & shoulders & as it was irreverently said in search of an undress. She was to go as a Vestal Virgin. I got home about 6. Emily R came to dinner & in the eveng Mrs & Miss Bronson came to spend an hour quietly & we gave them tea & punch.
