30 January 1884 — Milan
Wednesday. 30th January [1884]. I was tired & cold & stayed in & wrote letters. Henry went out to the Borsa & returned at 12.30 when we lunched. At 1.30 Mme d’Adda fetched me in her carriage & we went to Ermelinda’s the embroideress where I bought some work to do & arranged that I should have the piece to take away with me on Saty wh she is transferring. We left a few cards & then Mme d’Adda took me home with her & gave me tea & I saw a good many ladies of her acquaintance & family who came to call. Henry who had been out with M. d’Adda came for me at 5 & took me back to the Hotel. I dressed & we went back to the d’Addas & dined there & in the evening played Ecarté La Chanette with M. d’Adda who lost & we all won something. At 10.30 we walked home to hotel.
