4 February 1884 — Paris
Monday. 4th February [1884]. Breakfast 9. Henry had a bad cold & did not go out all day. At 10.30 I went out with Gigia. Went to Hotel France et Bath to enquire for the Tom Bruces & found they had arrived last night from Cannes & were not ready. I waited to see them & they settled to come to us at 2. I walked on to DuCroquet 41 Bd des Capucines the dressmaker & ordered a gown promising to return after 2 to decide on pattern. I went & ordered 2 bonnets. One is to be of plan de suede to match gloves & trimmed with seal skin. Walked back to the hotel. Lunched. Dacre Du Cane came to lunch. The Bruces came at 2 & abt 3 Dacre & I left them & we went off in a cab. I left Dacre at his office Bd Houssemann & then went on to pay visits & back to DuCroquet’s & then back to the hotel. I met Mr Atlee at the door & I found Lord Lyons also there & he paid us a long visit. Later Sir John & Lady Walsham came to see us. He is now 1st secy at the Embassy here– Dined at home– Cribbage & écarté.
