8 February 1884 — Paris
Friday. 8th February [1884]. Idita came to fetch me at 10 & we went off to enquire for my purse at the Petit St Thomas but of course it was not to be found. We went on to Bon Marché to do more shopping & then came back to the Louvre to finish up. We came in to lunch at 1. At 2 Mme Hurtado fetched Idita & Henry & I went off together in a cab to the Embassy to call on Mr Atlee. Found him at his office. Went on to do other shopping & to the other side of the river to look for book shops to order the remaining volumes of l’Art pour tous & then returned to the hotel. We asked M. Belard to get us tickets for the theatre tomorrow to see Le Maitres des Forges & resolved to remain quiet this evening, dined at 7 & afterwards Dacre came in to chat. I had put on a tea gown & we were sitting talking when Belard came in to ask why we were not gone to the theatre—& we found he had by some mistake taken our tickets for tonight. It was just 9 o’cl. I quickly dressed & we hurried off & got there in the middle of the 1st act. Dacre went also & got a seat but not near us. The play was very well acted but I did not think it as good as the novel. We got home at 12.
