21 February 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 21st February [1884]. Maria & I went off to the Vica St stores in the morning to make various purchases & returned to lunch at 1. Alice Du Cane came to lunch. Henry went to the Levée directly after lunch. Maria returned home with Alice. At 3.30 I went in our carriage to fetch Blanche. Found Mrs Stewart Hodgson calling there. I took B first to a cottage in Lambeth & then we went on to H of Commons hoping to see a fresh Bradlaugh incident. The Speaker read a letter to say he did not intend to present himself till the pending law suit was settled. We went away for a while to tea with Ly Erskine May who was very kind to us– We returned to our seats through the House itself & had to pass thro’ the Lobby wh made us very shy. Luckily Edward Ponsonby was there & took us thro’. We stayed in the House till 7 & then went home. Blanche & Edward dined with us.
