12 March 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 12th March [1884]. Mrs Austin left us & returned to her home. Lady de Winton & Susie St Quintin came to lunch & Arthur also put in an appearance. Henry went out to the City to luncheon. About 3 Cornelia called for me. She was driving with Corise & Freddy, We went by appointment to see Mrs Vaughan at the Temple. We found Blanche also there. Cornelia remained so short a time that I felt bound to remain to tea as several people had been invited to meet us, such as Mr Clifford the artist, Dr Harper, the Bishop of Lichfield, the Bishop of A                (a Canadian Bishop whose name is Sullivan), Lady Lyttleton &c &c. I returned home in a hansom & had to dress & dine at 7 to go to the Play with Mr Rate, Blanche & Edward. They dined with me & we went to the St James’ Theatre to see a very pretty piece “The scrap of paper.” Arthur (my brother) was there also with pretty Mrs Hillyar & a Mrs Tharp sister to the one we met this summer at Castagnolo. I had not seen her since I was at Spa when I was a girl. Henry dined at one of Sir Henry Thompson’s octaves.
