12 April 1884 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Saturday. 12th April [1884]. I worked hard at my wax work wh occupied me all the morning. Arthur went to stay the day at Bath & returned while we were at dinner. I was rather headachy & so did not go out. I got into dire disgrace with Theo by asking the twins to beg the gardener to give me a flower to wear in the eveng & saying if I might have a gardenia I shd be all the better pleased & suggested Alice also having one. The gardener sent us each one & I wore mine at dinner & so did Alice. I was perfectly unconscious of having done wrong until Alice told me that Theo was frantic at wh I jumped up & followed her to the library where she was gone to fetch a book. I made humble excuses wh she received huffily & I rushed up to my own room & cried like a goose with vexation. I managed to calm myself & to go down to sing glees but Theo unappeased sat furious & tried to sweep us all off to bed to wh Merthyr objected & I was much relieved when at last the singing was over & we went to our rooms. Dr Wiblin came today.
