28 May 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 28th [May 1884]. Annie Murray sent word she cd not go to Padua as she had had an attack of asthma in the night. The 2 Mr Murrays went & took Alice with them. We gave them breakfast at 8 o’cl & started them off. We & Annie breakfasted at 9 & then I wrote letters & A & I made cigarettes & chatted. After lunch A retired to rest a little & I made more cigarettes. At 4 we & Henry went off in gondola to the Edens’ garden. There we found Pss Paul Metternich & her little girl & Pce [illegible word] & Mr & Mrs Law. Then came a lot more people there the Pilats, Duncombes &c. Annie & I got a big bunch of roses & sweet peas & we carried home a basketful. We went abt 6 to see Mrs Bronson. Met her going in to her house & went in to see her. She was pleased to see us & very kind & nice. Went home & found Alice & the Murrays had returned from Padua at 4 & the latter had gone out again to sketch. I went in to the Canevaros to settle to go altogether to Burano on Friday & I promised to go again in the eveng to meet Css Marcello. We dined at 8 & afterwards I went there but had to wait till nearly 11 to see her as she came so late & I had to come home by 11.
