30 May 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 30th May [1884]. I was up & dressed at 8 & went down to superintend Ferdinando gardening in our windows. We lunched at 12 & went off at 1 to Burano. I went in our gondola with Henry & Mr Murray. Annie & Hallam Murray & Alice in a 2nd gondola– We got to Burano in 1¾ hour. Went to the lace school & inspected it & then went on to Torcello. Then I unpacked the basket & made tea while the others went over the churches. Then some sketched & others went over the Museum. The morning had begun with rain & it had cleared up so that altho’ the weather was overcast yet it was pleasant & not too hot. There was a fresh little breeze blowing. At 6 we set off home & got there at ¼ 8 just as a shower began & it continued to rain most of the evening so there was no going out.
