10 June 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 10th June [1884]. Alice read while I worked & painted. It rained all morning & was cold. After lunch it cleared & Henry & Alice went out. At 3 Miss Grant came to see me & we had a long chat till 4.30 when Henry & Alice returned & Mr & Mrs Bonamy Price came to call & have tea– Ersilia Canevaro came & also Lady Cloncurry with her daughter Miss Lawless. Mrs B. Price seems a charming old lady with silvery white hair & clever eyes. She was a Miss Babbington, Ld Macaulay’s niece. The Professor is a delightful little chatterbox of a man, gay & good humoured & merry. After dinner Henry & I went out in gondola & took a walk in the Piazza. Alice did not go out.
