11 June 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 11th June [1884]. Busy at machine &c. After lunch Henry went out & took Miss Grant with him. Alice & I were in when Mrs Forbes Brown came to call & she came up to the studio & was still there when Ersilia Canevaro came to fetch me to go out with her– We went to call on the wife of the Adl here Mme Martini whose day it was and thence we went to the Eden’s garden. The weather was dull & a few drops of rain fell every now & then. Lady Cloncurry came there & brought B. & Bss Oesterreicher with her & Miss Lawless. The Pilats were also there. Carry allowed me to pick a lot of flowers to take home with me. I got home at 6 & found Henry had taken Alice out & they were just coming home. We put up the flowers before dinner. Rainy evening & no going out. Alice & I played duetts on piano & harmonium.
