15 June 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 15th June [1884]. Went to church with Alice and played the harmonium. Lord Alwyne Compton preached. Mrs Eden was at church & we took her home in our gondola after service. After lunch Biraghi came & I helped him to look for a book with designs for wood carvings. Abt 3.30 Mrs Eden called for me in her gondola & we went to leave cards on Mme Martini & then to her garden. just as we got there we found Ersilia Canevaro going away from the door & seeing us she came back. At the garden we found Mr Eden & pretty Mme Acton—then came Mme Pilat & then Css Valmarana– We had tea & sat some time talking till abt 6 Ersilia went home & took me. I went into her house & saw Maria & Ct Canevaro who came in soon after. Alice & Henry had gone to see the procession of the Corpus at the Canareggio & did not come in till 7.30 when we dined. After dinner Henry & I went to the Edens to bid them goodbye. Mme Pilat & Mr G. Ker were there. It was cold & windy & we went home early.
