19 June 1884 — Turin
Thursday. 19th [June 1884]. Henry went again to the Consul & got his paper signed & witnessed & then returned & fetched Alice & me & went to the Exhibition & went to the Restaurant d’Europe and had lunch. It was a very pleasant spot & we had a far better lunch than yesterday. We saw there M. Fambri the Ex Deputy of Venice also Prof. & Mme A. Errora whom we had seen at Naples when we spent the winter there 4 or 5 years ago. After lunch we went to visit the Borgo & the Medioevale Castle which has been built on a very pretty spot in the gardens down by the Po. it is most wonderfully well done & gives one a perfect idea of the mode of living of these times. We returned to the Exhibition & met the Erroras again at the Stabto show. We stopped to hear the organ play but it was not a really fine one so we took our tram & returned to the hotel & rested a little before dinner & then dined at table d’hôte. Spent the rest of the evening in my room working. Alice & Henry played cribbage.
