4 July 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 4th [July 1884]. It was very hot still. I read aloud to Alice & painted. In the afternoon 2 Miss Montalbas came to see us & brought their little green parrot to show me & we showed them Joey & all our birds. Lady Cloncurry & Mrs Bronson & Edith also came to tea. Alice went to the station to meet her brother Arthur & we dined at 8. He arrived from Lausanne at 7.45. After dinner I went to Ersilia’s & with her to the Piazza. We met Canevaros & then went to Florian’s & had ices & I did not come in till 11. Henry had been out with Alice & Arthur & was already in bed when I got home. I began today to copy the MS of Henry’s Memoirs—his Mission at Madrid.
