5 July 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 5th [July 1884]. Melting heat. Alice took Arthur to St Marks. I remained at home & drew & painted. Copied for Henry after lunch. Tea at 4.30 & went out with Alice & Arthur to call on Mrs Noyes who was at home. She is wife of the American consul. Went to see Trapolin about sending patterns to Liberty to sell. Home to dinner. Afterwards took Alice & Arthur to Piazzetta & Henry & I went to Ersilia’s. Henry played whist with Mmes Valmarana & Nitta &c. I sat & talked. We came home at 11.30 just as a great thunderstorm began but it did not come down properly to cool the air.
