15 August 1884 — Milan | |
Friday. 15th August [1884]. On arriving at Milan at 6.30 the first person we saw stepping out of the same train was Mrs Bronson who came from Venice & was going to Kreuznach. We breakfasted together at the restaurant & saw her off to Bale & then went at 8.15 by train to Arona wh we reached at 10.30. Took the steamer to Baveno & got there at 12.30. Mr Pedretti met us & carried us off to his hotel. Found Mrs Colnaghi & her two daughters staying at the hotel & they met us in the garden– We went in & got some food—& then rested till 4. Dressed & went & sat in the garden where we found Mr Colnaghi. Dined at table d’hôte at 6.30. I sat next a Mrs Harris—a german married to American Consul at Nice; a pleasant woman with a pretty daughter– Sat in the garden after dinner talking to the Colnaghis. Bed early. | |
