8 September 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Monday. 8th September [1884]. Painted in morning. Had tea at 4. A visit from Mme Valmarana & we promised to go to her this eveng for whist. Went out after tea in gondola to the public gardens where we walked about to get a little exercise & amused ourselves with watching the people who were there holiday making today being a great fete the Nativity of the Virgin. We then went home to 7 o’cl dinner. I played the harmonium in the evening. A storm came up & it rained heavily so we gave up the idea of going out & went early to bed after a game of cribbage. | |
