10 September 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 10th September [1884]. I painted all morning. Miss Holas came & I gave her Henry’s MSS to read over to see if she could copy it for him. She found great difficulty in reading his writing but she stayed some time studying it & promised to come again tomorrow to see again. After lunch the beauty of the day went off—it blew & was stormy. But it did not rain so Henry & I went in gondola to S. Gioggio dei Schiavoni to see how Sr Desideri is getting on with a copy of one of the Carpaccio’s he is doing for the Arundel Society & also to beg him to come & give me lessons in copying pictures. He agreed to come tomorrow at 9.30 for an hour & we offered to pay him 5 fcs. We went on to Murano to see the artisti at the Glass works & then came home. Henry walked home from the Fondamenta Nuove & I came in the gondola. When I got in I found that Cortelazzo had arrived to stay with us. Wrote letters. Dined 7. Went out in gondola– Took a turn in the Piazza wh in spite of a band playing was nearly empty & then we went to the Edens to ask abt our proposed expedition wh on acct of the weather we had to put off.
