29 September 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 29th September [1884]. Henry & I left Venice by 9.15 train & went to Verona. We arrived there abt 11.40; we sent our bags to the Hotel & lunched at the station restaurant. Met there Ct Soranzo who was passing thro’ from Venice. We took a carriage & went to visit some of the churches to examine the pictures for the new edition of Kugler & we returned to the Hotel abt 4 quite tired. Rested & dined at 7. I read aloud to Henry & we played cribbage. The hotel was almost empty & there are everywhere terrible lamentations about the want of tourists on acct of the cholera–
