28 October 1884 — Florence | |
Tuesday. 28th October [1884]. I went at 10 to the gallery & finished my sketch & returned to the hotel by 1 to lunch. I found Mrs Ross already arrived from Castagnolo. At 2 we all 3 went out to go the round of the antiquary shops. We saw some frames at one shop & some brocatelle curtains at another that we rather liked but otherwise there was very little to tempt one. At 4 we parted with Mrs Ross who returned home by train & we came indoors. We sat & I read aloud till past 6. Then dressed & we went to dine with the Colnaghis. We met a young Mr & Mrs Macquay– They have not been long married. She was a rich widow. Rather handsome but seemed to me rather stupid. We came back early. | |
