21 November 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 21st November [1884]. Fred Layard came to call & then Mama came to say Monty would sell us the house & I was to go & see it this afternoon. Blanche returned from Ireland this morning & Alice Du Cane with her. Alice came to luncheon with me. Directly after luncheon Mrs Rate & Margie called so it was past 3 before we got out. I took Alice back to Blanche’s & met Monty coming out of her house so we went round to No 1 & he showed me over the house wh took my fancy very much. I then went to see Blanche—& on to Mama– The House in Queen Anne St is all furnished excepting the 2 drawing rooms wh we like as we can do them our own way. I went home to tea & told Henry all about it. Sir Fred: Burton came to tea. Susan Hambro came to dinner. We expected Edward but he did not turn up. Monty came after dinner. This morning Ivor & I walked down Bond St & up Oxford St going into different silversmith’s shops to enquire abt 2nd hand plate for us to buy. We saw nothing under 6/ oz.
