22 November 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 22nd November [1884]. At 11 Henry & I walked up to Queen Anne St & went to No 1 & went over the house with Monty. He was quite as much taken with it as I was yesterday & at once accepted Monty’s terms & we arranged to take it from next Monday & to move in from Savile Row. Having settled this we went a moment to see Blanche at No 15 and tell her. Then we went to Langham house to inform Mama & then back to Savile Row. Henry went to lunch at Arlington House. Maria appeared & lunched with me but went away directly after. Hardly had she gone when Richard came in search of her & I told him abt our purchase & asked him to act for us. He was going to look for a house for himself having sold Exeter House they are coming to settle in town. At 3 Blanche called for me in her carriage & we drove down to Putney to see Mrs Austen who has had a stroke. We found her about but not able to walk quickly & speaking with labour. She has an old friend Miss Oliver staying with her. Blanche left me there & went on to Exeter House to see Maria who came to Temmies with Blanche. At 5.45 we started back for London. Henry & I, Blanche & Edward, Mama & Mrs Hambro dined at 1 Queen Anne St with Monty. After dinner we sat in the billiard room & played billiards.
