4 December 1884 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Thursday. 4th December [1884]. Henry & I left Canford by 9.55 train & went to Basingstoke. Changed there for Mortimer. The Aldermaston Bus was waiting for us & we got to Aldermaston by 1.30. Showery blustering day. After lunch Henry & I tried to walk on the terrace & were finally driven into the conservatory to walk up & down. Went to the Squire’s room & sat with him playing cribbage. He is only just recovering from a severe illness & is kept to his room. Dined at 7.30. Arthur Burr & his cousin Calvert Scobell came in late for dinner from Sandown Races. Isabel Scobell is also staying here. We went after dinner to the Squire’s room again & played cribbage a little while & then went downstairs again till 10.30 wh was bed time.
