16 December 1884 — 1 Queen Anne Street | |
Tuesday. 16th [December 1884]. Alice Rate came at 11 & she & I went out shopping together & to Haynes the Upholsterer to see his artistic materials. Returned home to meet Maria & found she had come & gone so I tried to pursue her as I knew she had gone to try & see a house in Portland Place. I cd not find her & returned home & lo! she was at my door. Gave her lunch & then she returned to Exeter House. Alice & Annie Murray came also to lunch. At 3 I went out driving with Henry to see Mr Vigor’s studio & we settled he is to begin my portrait on 12th Jany. Luff came to arrange abt buying our plate for us. Dined at Dr & Mrs Wm Smiths. Sir Henry Thompson took me down. Met the Leckys, Bruces, Kinglake, Burton. | |
