Thursday. 26th February [1885]. Went to see Blanche in the morng. Fred Layard came to lunch. I did not go out. Dined at Mrs Graham’s in Grosvenor Place. A Mr Graham took me to dinner & I said in the middle of dinner, can you tell me who Lady Margaret Compton married? “Me” he answered—to my confusion & surprise. He said they had been married 2 months. A pretty little Mrs Gaskell sang in the evening with taste but no voice. Mr Graham sang an elaborate Anglo Italian comic song wh to me was very dull & we came home early. | |
