2 March 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 2nd March [1885]. I went to see Blanche directly after lunch & then went to call on Cornelia who was out to see Mme Blumenthal whose day it was & whom I therefore found at home & then to 36 Chester Sqr to fetch Miss Otway & went with her to the House of Commons. We stayed there till past 6 & heard a great many questions asked & answered & then the debate on the address & the Queen abt the Reserves began. A Mr Redmond a vulgar little Irish member made an insolent speech suggesting the Irish Constabulary shd be sent to the Soudan & hoped not a man would live to return– He received a good set down from another Irish member who gave it him roundly. Mama came & dined with us & she & I played duetts all the eveng till bed time.
