18 March 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 18th March [1885]. Mrs Rate came for me in her carriage in the morning & we went together to the Stores to buy provisions for this evenings dinner party fruit & flowers. When I came home I found Sir Wm Gregory & Miss Fan West who has just returned from Venice, & Mr Poynter come to luncheon– I arranged the flowers for the table in afternoon & did not go out again. Abt 7 I met Luigi in the hall very excited saying his watch had been stolen off the table in his room– I went down below & found his window looking in to the area had been opened, & 2 photo frames knocked down & the glass of one broken by the thief who carried off the watch & charm. We had dinner party consisting of the Portuguese Minister & Mme d’Antas, Sir Julian & Lady Pauncefote, Capt. & Lady A. Montague, Mr & Mrs Henry Reeve, Mr & Mrs J. Murray.
