18 April 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 18th April [1885]. Drove out in the morning, went to see Mrs Bruce abt her ball & on to the Stores. Home to lunch. Alice Du Cane lunched here & went with us to Sarasate’s concert at Sr James’ Hall. He is a Spaniard & his playing much admired. He is a pupil of our old Madrid friend Monasterio but altho he has great execution his feeling is not so good as his master. He played a “Jota Aragonesa” with great spirit. We walked home & Alice & I arranged the flowers for our dinner party & went out & got more as Mr Rate did not send me eno’ for the table. Sir A. Otway & Miss Otway, Sir R. Collier, Sir Erskine May & Miss Laughton, Maria & Richard Du Cane, Mme Du Quaire, Sir Fred Burton & Sir Charles Wyke dined with us. Cornelia had a large Primrose party but I did not go to it. Great numbers of people in the streets wore primroses today.
